Purbadhala thana was established in 1917 and it was turned into an upazila in 1983. From the Mughal period, culture in this upazila seems to be touched. During this time, two mosques built in Soni Kanda and Lalchapur village of this upazila bear recognition in the architectural style of the people of this area. Besides, Narsingh Jui Akhra of Hogla union and Rajpara temple situated in Ghagra union carry the identity of the people of the upmarket religious culture of the upazila. The madman Karam Shah and his son Tipu Shah settled in the village of Latekanda, in 1792, and from this village they used to lead the mad rebellion and peasant uprising.
